The quiz
Businessmen
Lawyers
Computer programmers
Sportsmen
Teacher: Hello,
dear boys and girls! Today we will make up a quiz to find out
what you know about different occupations.
But first we should divide you into
teams. There will be four of them: businessmen, lawyers, computer progammers
and sportsmen. Please, pull out pieces of paper to find out a member of what team
you will be. Then, choose the name of your team.
Каждая
команда
имеет
свое
название.
На
столах
стоят
заранее
приготовленные таблички.
Teacher: OK, I am glad to introduce the teams of “Businessmen”, ‘Lawyers”,
“Computer programmers” and “Sportsmen” to you. And this is our jury who will
help us to choose the best of the best. And I have the first riddle for you. Each team
gets a piece of paper and a pen. I’ll turn on the music. While the music plays, you
give the pen to each other around the table. When I stop the music, you write down
the word I dictate. Then I’ll turn the music again and you give the pen to your
classmates. When the music stops, the next person writes down a word. Please,
write the words down in a column. Ready, steady, go!
Музыка.
Teacher:

Everybody does something to earn his or her living. So, what is it? Now, read the
first letters of the words you have written down. What word do you find?
“Occupation”? Sure, that’s just it! Now give your papers to the jury to count your
points. While the jury is counting, I want to know if there any synonyms for the
word “occupation”.
Pupils: job, work, profession, career.
Teacher: But what about our jury? Have they counted the points? Which team can
write best?
Jury: Each correct word gives you a point. So the … team gets … points.
Teacher: Thanks to our jury. There are many different occupations. And now I
want you to do the crossword puzzle. You have to find and circle 8 occupations.
Then write them down.
Каждая команда получает карточку с ребусом.

Teacher: Let our jury choose the best team.
Everybody knows a famous Russian poet Sergei Mikhalkov. He has written a lot of
funny poems and rhymes for children. One of them is called “What have you?”. I
want you to listen to the extract of the poem. It will be in English. You have to
write down all the occupations which are mentioned here. Be careful!
(pilot,
militiaman, engineer, acrobat, tram driver, tailor, cook, doctor, teacher)
In the fourth place, our mamma
Will be flying off again,
For you know that our mamma
Is the pilot of a plane.
Vova answered from the stairs,
“She’s a pilot? Well, who cares ?
“Now I have a cousin Anne;
Her Mum’s a militiaman.

“And we know two pioneers
Who have Mummy-engineers.
Vera’s Mum’s an acrobat.
Mum’s a pilot?
What of that?
“More important than all others,
Surely, are tram-driver mothers;
And my Mummy,” Nata said,
“Drives a tram-car with two trailers”
Nina shook her little head,
“What
is
wrong
with
Mummy-
tailors?
Who
would
sew
the
children’s
clothes?
Mummy-pilots, I suppose?”
Pilots fly both day and night,
That is very good and right.
Mummy-cooks prepare our food,
That is very right and good.
Mummy-doctors cure the flu,
Schools have Mummy-teachers, too.
Mums are all important, mind.
We need Mums of every kind.
(translated by Eugene Felgenhauer)

Музыка. Учащиеся заполняют таблицу.
Teacher: And it’s time to represent your results to our jury. Who is the best now?

Teacher: I see you are good at guessing jobs and you know a lot about them.
That’s very good. This knowledge will be of great use for you in the future. You
also know that responsibilities are not the only thing people should consider when
they choose their future job. They should think if they have necessary traits of
character. Your task now is to name as many characteristics as you can for each
occupation. Each word gives you a point.
Для выполнения задания каждая команда получает картинку из предыдущего
конкурса.
Teacher: Very good. I see that our pupils know much about different occupations
and
responsibilities. Подсчитываются

победители
награждаются
памятными дипломами.
